It is intriguing and seductive to think that a thought can save you… when it can’t, that a piece of information or “grand knowledge” can reveal the truth of life, when knowledge is not truth.
The feeling of who you are, felt with accuracy, is the only thing that can direct you to a place that is safe, or a manner of living that can provide you what you want… a thought can’t take you there and earth born “knowledge” is useless.
Give it a try.
The feeling of who you are will tell you where you are; little else can do that.
Life is lived from the inside out, and not from the outside in.
Find the place within you, where you are, and any place can be your home. Without the Dwelling Place of you, nowhere you arrive will feel like home.
You cannot be found, and you will not belong—at heart—until the Dwelling Place of you has been found. It comes through love and will lead you everywhere you go.
If your heart has never been loved, it is hard to feel it. If your heart has never been known, it is difficult to know who you are.
Don’t destroy yourself in the process of searching. Find a safe and consistent way to be loved. This may begin with devotion: giving your heart to a heart that has nothing to give in return but love.
Devotion is the key to finding your heart, not destruction or foolish risk. First be kind to yourself; then spend time in devotion. The heart will emerge, and you will know who you are.
If you have not been loved, and do not know your heart; you have not been cheated or shortchanged by life. Quite the opposite: You have a fresh starting place, an obvious point where you can begin to find the unique love of your own heart, and give it to the world.
Through devotion, you can know yourself. Through devotion you acquire a skill no other man or woman has; you acquire the ability to save another person’s life, to lead this person to his or her own heart. Do that, and keep your life as you do. Grow your heart, love it and give it away as it gives to you.
Devotion: the continued and steady practice of love.
